WILDLIFE SPECIES AND MANAGEMENT

Birds

The Ngorongoro Conservation Area hosts over 500 species of avian species (both migratory and resident) which are found in distinguished vegetation terrains. Most of the water birds are found in Lake Magadi which is located in the Ngorongoro crater floor.

Other areas include the Empakaai crater, the Olmoti crater, and Ndutu marsh. Vultures, however, are abundantly found at the Olkarien Gorge which is considered their breeding site.

Flamingos, pelicans, heroes, ibises, ostriches, crown cranes, kori bustards, secretary birds, hammer kops, and European strain vultures are also found in NCA.
