What to do in NCA

In NCA, tourists are admired by numerous activities attached to natural and cultural attractions, areas of archaeological interest, mountains, culture and arts and festivals and events.

Filming

The Ngorongoro Conservation Area is one of Tanzania’s best filming destinations. Having a diversity of beautiful sites such as The Ngorongoro Crater which is the largest intact caldera in the world, the Olduvai Gorge etc. as well as indigenous tribes and abundance of wildlife the Ngorongoro Conservation Area makes a one-stop location for filming in Africa.

NCAA welcomes companies, institutions, groups, and individuals seeking permission to film within NCA. However, they must write a letter to request for permission, the letter must state the reason for filming. In addition, applicants must include a synopsis or scripts, copies of all crew members’ passports, and a list of filming equipment. All applicants are advised to submit the form to The Tanzania Film Board at least one month prior to the filming date.

Camping Safaris

The Ngorongoro Conservation Area is enriched with best locations for camping, where you can experience the spectacular vistas of the Ngorongoro Caldera. Simba A is the most famous public campsite perfectly set on the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater. While on a public campsite of the Ngorongoro, you can take advantage of the services offered here such as free Wi-Fi, Electric power supply to re-charge your devices, hot shower, dining halls, kitchen facilities, and public washrooms.

With the exception of Simba A Public Campsite, all of the campsites within the Ngorongoro Conservation Area are classified as special campsites sharing little differences in terms of time of occupancy between special, stopover, and Seasonal Campsites. They are designed for self-contained safari operations that bring everything along. Few of these facilities are mostly large in size like those on Empakaai Crater rim and are designed for small backpacker groups.

Note that all special campsites are booked online through the Ngorongoro Safari Portal system.

Horse Riding

A horse safari in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area provides an extensive and detailed portfolio of Africa’s most iconic site – and a peek at a few of its best kept secrets. It’s a unique and the most luxurious experience to explore the Geopark area and come across a huge variety of games from the saddle.

This type of safari is led by a qualified and a well-trained guide, accompanied by a game ranger who will ensure the safety of all the group members and ensure all of the rules set for this adventure are adhered to. The routes for this adventure are off the beaten track, immersing into the wilderness presenting a great opportunity to discover the wonders of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

This activity takes place around Nasera Rock, Lemuta and Olkarien Gorge within the borders of Ngorongoro plains around Gol Mountains.

Biking

Mountain Biking or Cycling safari is another fascinating activity that makes an awesome adventure in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The mountain bike tour starts from Irkeepus village within Nainokanoka road towards the Empakai crater rim.

On the way, you can enjoy the area’s deep evergreen beauty, including Munge waterfall from the Olmoti Crater, Embulbul depression, Mount Lolmalasin (the third highest peak in Tanzania) and the Empakai crater.

Canoeing

Tourists visiting Ngorongoro will now have a diverse variety of recreational activities. The NCAA is currently in the final stages of developing this type of water sport in order to add more into our catalog of amazing activities available to our visitors and tourists, thereby extending the tourism season across time and space.

This is an awesome way for us to provide alternative means of leisure in its highly competitive environment.

Balloon Safaris

Provided the wonderful vistas and gorgeous sites of the famous Ngorongoro, hot air balloon safari is beyond imagination; nothing beats the feeling of exhilaration that comes with flying high above the Ngorongoro plains mostly in the Ndutu plans and Olduvai Gorge area. It’s an amazing way to grasp the enormity of what’s taking place and explore the scenery, landscapes, and wildlife of the Ngorongoro.

Although the hot-air safaris are organized by private tour operators under special license, your safety is our number one concern. We ensure that the balloon used for safaris within NCA doesn’t exceed a limited number of flight hours before they need replacing.

Sundowning

The Ngorongoro Conservation area is surrounded by volcanic calderas, volcanic mountains, hills, and plains that provide breathtaking scenery. Visit Ngorongoro to enjoy the Ngorongoro’s beautiful landscapes and night-skies as the sun sets.

Bush Dining

Bush dining (not necessarily limited to late evening meals) is, at most, a must-do activity while on African safari to anyone visiting the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. It drives home a great sense of satisfaction and incomparable joy; the real experience of African safari.

It’s a temporary dining in the afternoon whilst out in the wilderness for game drive, surrounded by wild sounds and scenery. The special picnic areas must be reserved in advance and paid for prior to arrival.
